Lya Reis Guerrero, better known in musical spheres as Lya Drummer, is a woman on fire, and a woman who seems to have the words ‘Yes, you’ve got this’ tattooed on her forehead. Lya is what we refer to as ‘a power house’: a warrior with a vitality that allows her to move through life assertively, always exploring the potential within everything she loves. Drummer, percussionist, sound designer, surfer and skateboarder, Lya lives life with a contagious enthusiasm, yet, in this interview, we discover the more structured and organised side of her personality.
Working simultaneously on dozens of musical projects not only shows her great versatility as an instrumentalist, but also highlights her faith in music as both a medium and a message. Although her early days as a drummer are steeped in the expressive harshness of grunge and punk – Lya’s first band in Caracas was Skin, an all-girl, 3 piece rock band – nowadays she spreads her stylistic wings around world, using the rhythmic potential of the Latin beat to challenge traditions and stereotypes with her fusions of inescapable artistic relevance.
Since arriving in Europe, she has lived through both personal and musical challenges and adventures, which is why this conversation is full of funny anecdotes, stories of reinvention and tips on survival. Discover why Lya has decided to dedicate her life to music, how her drumming became so luxurious, and where her future ambitions lie.

Lya Reis Guerrero, meglio conosciuta negli ambienti musicali come Lya Drummer, è una donna con il fuoco nelle vene, e una donna che sembra avere scritte in fronte le parole “dai, si può fare”. Lya è quello che in inglese si chiama ‘power house’ (centrale elettrica): una guerriera fortissima, con un dinamismo che le permette di muoversi attraverso la vita con determinazione, esplorando sempre le potenzialità nascoste in ciò che ama. Batterista, percussionista, progettista del suono, appassionata di surf e skateboard, Lya vive la vita in pienezza, con un entusiasmo contagioso, e tuttavia, in questa intervista, scopriamo il lato più strutturato e organizzato della sua focosa personalità.
Riuscire a dividersi tra decine di progetti musicali prova la sua grande versatilità come strumentista, ma allo stesso tempo mette in luce il suo credere nel valore della musica sia come mezzo, che come messaggio. Sebbene il suo esordio come batterista sia legato alla crudezza espressiva del grunge e del punk – Lya ha iniziato la sua carriera a Caracas come batterista di Skin, una rock band formata solo da tre ragazze- oggi questa strumentista diffonde nel mondo la potenzialità ritmica del beat latino, che si spinge a sfidare tradizioni e stereotipi, attraverso fusioni musicali di innegabile valore artistico.

Lya Reis Guerrero, mejor conocida en las esferas musicales como Lya Drummer, es una una mujer de fuego, una mujer que parece tener escrito en la frente las palabra ‘Vamos, si se puede’. Lya es lo que llaman en ingles ‘a power house’: una guerrera poderosa, con una fuerza vital que le permite moverse con acertividad, y explorar toda la potencialidad presente en las cosas que ama. Baterista, percusionista, diseñadora de sonido, surfista y skater, Lya se entrega a la vida con un entusiasmo contagioso, sin embargo, con esta entrevista descubrimos el lado mas estructurado y organizado de su fogoza personalidad.
Dividirse entre decenas de proyectos musicales da muestra de su gran versatilidad como instrumentista, pero también describe su fe en la música como medio y como mensaje. Aunque sus inicios como baterista están asociados a la crudeza expresiva del grunge y el punk -Lya se inició en Caracas como baterista de Skin, una banda rock solo de chicas – en la actualidad disemina por el mundo, la potencialidad rítmica de los beats latinos que se atreven a desafiar tradiciones y estereotipos con fusiones de ineludible relevancia artística.
Desde su llegada a Europa ha vivido toda clase de aventuras y desafíos, tanto en el terreno personal como en el musical, razón por la cual esta conversación está llena de anécdotas divertidas, historias de reinvención y tips de supervivencia.
